Jack and his wife Carolyn live in Whistler with their three children. Jack’s grandparents, Ray and Margaret Crompton, built the family home in Alta Vista in 1966. Since then, the Crompton family has been involved in local business and community organizing on many levels, ranging from founding being an original shareholder of Whistler Mountain and the building the Clocktower Hotel to founding the Whistler Skiers Chapel.
Jack has tried to carry on the family tradition—in addition to running for municipal council, he sits on the Whistler 2020 Transportation Task Force, and is a Whistler Business Ambassador.
In 2003, Jack founded Whistler Resort Cabs and operated the company until selling it in July 2008. Under Jack's directions Resort Cabs employed over 60 people, provided Whistler's only accessible taxi service and operated propane powered vehicles. Jack remains involved in the transportation sector: he now owns and operates Transportation Whistler and www.ridebooker.com—a company that manages ground transportation for groups going to and from Canadian airports, cities and resorts.
Prior to founding Resort Cabs, Jack worked at the Whistler-Blackcomb snowboard school, at a local church with Whistler’s seasonal workers. Jack founded the Langley Outdoors Club in 1994 and volunteered as a basketball coach throughout university. In 1999 Jack earned an BSc. Honors degree in Cell and Developmental Biology. For his senior thesis Jack studied environmental indicators in aquatic ecosystems.
Jack enjoys skiing, backpacking, soccer, golfing and beaching with his kids, Georgia, Maggie, and Van.
